Bakers in Kildare are being urged to better their fine accomplishment of raising €7,780 for Temple Street as this year's Great Irish Bake was launched this week.

The fine haul of last year was significant in providing funds for services in Temple Street, but the charity's organisers are asking people to up their efforts once again and raise even more money.

This year, broadcaster Mairead Ronan is the face of the Great Irish Bake, and she joined some budding young Temple Street bakers to launch the event.

To get involved, simply whip up a few buns, cakes, pies or desserts and invite your friends, neighbours, colleagues and loved ones to buy for goodness bake! You can organise whatever kind of bake sale whets your appetite - small or elaborate - it's a piece of cake!

Every minute of every day, sick children arrive at Temple Street to be treated by our doctors and nurses. The funds raised at this year's Great Irish Bake will fund the crucial equipment that helps heal our little patients and bring hope to worried families.

Great Irish Bake Ambassador Mairead said; "I'm thrilled to be on board as this year's Ambassador and support this fantastic campaign. Your cake has the power to do real good for thousands of children - it literally has the power to save lives - so why not get on board this April!"

Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive, Temple Street Foundation says, "Today in Temple Street - right now - sick children are in our wards, theatres and Intensive Care Unit being treated and healed by our doctors and nurses. But those doctors and nurses need your help to raise the funds needed to buy vital paediatric equipment. By simply hosting a bake sale, you will become part of the incredible circle of care that transforms children's lives for the better."
