Kildare 1-4
Mayo 1-9
Allianz NFL Division 1
Mayo lead Kildare by five points at the halfway stage of an exhilarating Division 1 encounter in Newbridge.
Kildare started well but their shooting was off, and that allowed Mayo to build up a three-point lead early on as Cillian O’Connor opened the scoring from a free, before Footballer of the Year, Andy Moran, beat Eoin Doyle to a ball on the left wing, sold a dummy to David Hyland and then delicately clipped it over from a tight angle. A massive free from goalkeeper Robbie Hennelly finished their scoring burst, before Kildare eventually responded with a point from a free through Feely.
Kildare then hit a point through Kevin Flynn on his first league start, before Hennelly made a smart save on a Niall Kelly shot for goal.
Mayo landed a couple of scores in quick succession through the O’Connor brothers, Cillian and Diarmuid, but Kildare soon enjoyed their best spell of the half when they posted scores through Feely and Paddy Brophy, before Flynn hit the net with a stunning solo goal.
Mayo hit back with two scores from Cillian O’Connor, before Adam Gallagher levelled matters with a point.
Andy Moran then netted to push Mayo in front, and a fine score from Diarmuid O’Connor pushed them five clear ahead of the break.
