A three-year-old girl has died in hospital after she was seriously injured in a road traffic collision on the M20 motorway near Limerick this afternoon.
Gardaí are at the scene of the crash on the motorway at Patrickswell, Co Limerick.
At approximately 4.45pm the girl was seriously injured when the car she was a passenger in collided with a second car on the northbound carriageway of the M20 at Attyflynn near Patrickswell.
She was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick but later died from her injuries.
Two further occupants of the car along with three from the second car were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The M20 is currently closed in both directions to facilitate garda forensic collision investigators and diversions are in place.
