Planning permission is being sought for the former Clelands supermarket in Kildare Town Shopping Centre.
The family-owned grocery chain moved out of the premises in July after over two years serving its customers.
Clelands also have supermarkets in Portlaoise and Abbeyleix in Co Laois.
Plans have now been lodged with Kildare Co Council to split the former Kildare town supermarket premises into two separate units.
The planning application, which was made in the name of Fintan Price, suggests that the units will be let out to two clients requiring less space than Clelands.
