Two one-act plays Skullduggery and Nine will be performed by the Moat Club in the Moat Theatre, Naas, this week from Thursday 11 April until Saturday 13 April.
Twice a year the Moat Club amateur drama group devotes itself to the one-act play. One of those times is October, when the club hosts the One-Act Drama Festival, and the other time is April when they stage a number of short plays for their devoted audiences.
This year, patrons are invited to experience an adrenaline rush of drama with Nine by Jane Shepherd and Skullduggery by Moat Club member Gerard O’Shea.
Skullduggery is described as ‘a drinkin’ drivin’ smokin’ skivin’ rockin’ ridin’ trip’. Rolo and his mate Zoo head west to make a nefarious delivery. They encounter all manner of man, woman and beast, from the girls they pick up in the Silken Thomas, to “the black Stephen Hendry”, to Daniel O’Connell and many more memorable characters.
They party hard, live wild and hardly a law goes unbroken. Two talented young actors take on these roles under the direction of Lianne O’Shea; Rolo is played by Aaron O’Connor and Zoo by Aidan Cooney.
Skullduggery by Gerard O'SheaIn Nine, two women are being held in a life-threatening situation. Locked in a room and chained apart, their only currency is words, and balance of power is everything. A single word takes on immense significance, even the difference between life and death.
Nine was originally produced at the Circle Rep Lab in New York City in March, 1995. Libby Trappe plays Women 1 and Amanda Ryan plays Woman 2 under the direction of Conor O’Connell. Conor, who is a former All-Ireland Drama best actor, takes on the role of director for the first time.

An Evening of One-act Plays runs at the Moat Theatre from Thursday 11 to Saturday 13 April at 8pm nightly.
