Local Kildare TD James Lawless has welcomed the additional capacity for Naas Community College in the current location but has warned that the Minister must not delay on the new school building.
Chief of Naas Community College Deputy Lawless said: "These six prefabs which have been granted planning permission are needed for the current year to support the student population which includes the secondary which includes the secondary school, Naas Community College, but also the primary school Naas Community National School. They are needed for this upcoming year and will allow students the space to continue their studies in comfortable surroundings."
He continued: "Importantly the new school building is progressing and must not be delayed any further. The tender report comes back to the Department this month, then it is up to the Minister for Education to make an order to proceed to build. The Minister must not delay on this order. Building is estimated to take between 12-18 months so September 2020 is the realistic date for the school building to open. If things went exceptionally well it could be ready for January 2020 but I think it's best to plan for September 2020. "
Deputy Lawless confirmed that he will with his colleagues at the school and that he will also call on the Minister to expedite the tender in Dail Eireann.
