By Kim O'Leary

A concerned KildareNow reader sent us these shocking images of rubbish illegally dumped close to homes in Naas, with concerns raised over health and safety in the area as the rubbish is attracting rats.

She said: “There is laneways behind houses on the Newbridge Road, Caragh road and St David’s tce and they all join up together. There is rubbish in several gardens which has attracted rats. My mother and father live on that road and also a friend of mine and we both have kids which cannot play in their own gardens because it’s too dangerous."

Mattresses have been dumped illegally outside homes in Naas

"Something needs to be done as it’s gone so bad there is also dog poo scattered in all areas of the laneways, a man down the road had to fork out quite a sum of money to clear out his own back garden all due to people dumping illegally - nappies, buggy’s, appliances and household rubbish. Also I’m pretty sure one or two houses are dumping their own rubbish down the back of their gardens they are like jungles. It is very unsafe and a danger to society," said the reader.

Buggies, nappies and other rubbish have been left close to homes in Naas bringing unwanted visitors such as rats

The reader has said that she intends to raise the issue of illegal dumping in the area with Kildare County Council, after she was alerted by neighbours of the 'shocking' dumping in the area.

She said: "It’s terrible how people can carry on like that I mean bins are only around 25p/m. 30 odd years my parents are living there and they’ve never had anything like that. Sad really you’d think this day and age people would care for our environment being so well educated about it - when all they are doing is destroying it and causing danger to others."
