It's set to be a breezy, mainly cloudy day ahead with outbreaks of rain and drizzle for Co Kildare as temperatures stay at around 18-20C today, although there's good news in store for the long weekend as temperatures are set to soar once more as a long-range weather map shows temperatures of 28C in Ireland over the Bank Holiday weekend.

This marks a massive 10C jump from the 18C forecast by Met Eireann today, and while Ireland was blasted by thundery downpours over the weekend, this looks set to clear up over the coming days.

The national forecaster Met Eireann confirmed: "High pressure is signalled to build over Ireland from the south towards the end of the week and into the coming weekend, leading to a return to more generally settled conditions... Daytime highs at this stage look likely to be in the low to mid-twenties."

Breezy and mainly cloudy today for Co Kildare. Most areas will be dry in the morning but outbreaks of light rain and drizzle will develop in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds, strong along the coast.

Tonight will be generally dry with a few clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees. Southwest winds will be light to moderate.

Becoming cloudy tomorrow, Wednesday with rain and drizzle gradually spreading across the province during the late morning and early afternoon. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees. Southerly winds will increase moderate to fresh

According to Met Eireann high pressure starting to build over Ireland, bringing warmer and drier weather by the weekend with temperatures expected to be as high as 26 degrees Celsius.

Thursday: Still a few spells of rain and drizzle on Thursday, but current indications suggest clearer sunnier conditions will develop later in the day. A warm day with maximum temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees, but a little cooler along Atlantic coasts.

Friday and the weekend: Warm in most areas with a mix of cloud and sunshine. Though a lot of dry weather overall is indicated, showers are still possible. Daytime highs will be between 20 and 26 degrees and winds will be light.
