Gorgeous conditions prevailed last weekend for the annual Dawn Walk in Kilcullen in aid of Pieta House.
Walkers met at the Square at around 3.30am, then began the 5k walk to Abbey Stud before returning to the Square for sizzling BBQ breakfasts.
Lorna Brophy, one of the organisers, complimented the number of people who’ve supported the event over the past five years and especially the young people who participated.
Marie Peelo, Deputy Director of Funding & Advocacy for Pieta House, also praised the supporters, saying that by participating in events like this, they are effectively giving people the opportunity to “start a new day” and she noted the wonderful sense of community and involvement prior to the walk.
“On behalf of the 36,000 people who’ve come through the doors of Pieta House, I thank you all for giving them the opportunity to have a better life! Communities working together she added was a powerful tool, whilst also fundraising for the work of Pieta House.
A minute’s silence was observed with Emily McGlinchey performing two songs, followed by Tracy Piggott who read a fitting poem, 'A New Day'.
Tracy noted one of her close friends had recently lost her son and the poem’s closing lines 'For when a day's been troubled, and the night is dark and long, lift up your fallen spirit, for a new day soon will dawn'.
On Saturday evening, a Twilight Chorus was hosted, also at the Square.
Mundy and the Kilcullen Gospel Choir rocked the river and surrounding areas.
