Two people were arrested at a Naas Garda Traffic Corps checkpoint in Naas last night.
During the Mandatory Alcohol Testing (MAT) operation, one motorist was stopped and arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
An analysis found the driver to be three times over the legal limit.
He will appear in court in coming weeks.
Another motorist was stopped arrested on suspicion of drug-driving. A blood sample has been sent for analysis and this will determine the course of the Garda investigation.
A small quantity of cannabis was also found.
Checkpoints
Gardai believe that regular checkpoints also disrupt the work of organised criminal gangs using the roads through Co Kildare to commit burglaries and other offences.
