Entries are now open to producers across the island of Ireland for this year’s Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards. The Awards, which are now in their 9th year, take place at the Dingle Food Festival in October.

Last year, there were more than 2,500 entries in what are the largest blind-tasted Food Awards on the island.

This year for the first time ever, there will be a Best in County and a Best in Farmers Market for every county in Ireland.

“The past winners of Best in County awards have reported that being recognised in their county has been vital to their business, especially those businesses where a large portion of their sales are made locally, either in stores or farmers markets," explained the Chairperson of the Irish Food Awards, Artie Clifford..

“As the support for the Best in County awards has grown, our producers have reached out to us to express the importance of local recognition from awards.”

Local producers Aedemar’s Lemon Curd won Bronze last year.

"It's impossible to overstate the significance winning the Blas na hEireann awards has made.  They gave my product, Aedamar's Lemon Curd, a huge boost, underlining the quality, particularly when approaching potential new stockists,” says Aedemar Cassidy.

“Using the Blas na hEireann branding on jars makes it stand out in a retail situation and gives an assurance of quality to purchasers."

Early bird entries close on April 30th. The final closing date is June 17th.
