There have been reports of a litany of thefts in areas of Newbridge and Kildare Town over the past number of days. The thefts are all of a similar nature as well, with the culprits targeting car parks of well known shops in the area.

On Friday afternoon a woman reported that her handbag was stolen in the Dunnes Stores car park in Newbridge after two people jumped out of a 2003 Nissan Micra and snatched the woman's bag before fleeing the scene.

A similar theft took place in the same car park yesterday afternoon as another handbag was snatched, and there was reportedly a large sum of cash inside the bag.

There are also reports of a further two robberies from shops in Kildare Town, with thefts reported from the car parks of Aldi and Tesco in the town.

Two women were last night arrested in connection with the thefts in Kildare Town after the were stopped by Naas Gardaí while travelling in a car on the N7. They were charged in relation to the earlier thefts following questioning in Kildare Garda Station.
