Jobs boost for Kildare as 1,100 new jobs coming to a town near the Kildare border

It was announced this morning that a new biotech plant that is scheduled to be opened by 2019 will create 400 new jobs in Piercetown, Co Meath.

Pharmaceutical company Shire are set to build a large new premises in Piercetown, which is conveniently located on the M3 Motorway. The new plant will be located within 10 kilometres of the Kildare border near Maynooth, and it will create a large variety of jobs in sectors such as construction, engineering, research and development.

The cost of building on the site is expected to reach around $400 million, with 700 part-time positions to be created during construction and a further 400 high skilled full-time positions will also be created.

“Ireland is a strategically important location for Shire, providing both excellence in life science R&D and manufacturing," said Shire’s Senior Vice President of Technical Operations, Tim Kelly.

"We already have a strong team on the ground in Ireland and believe that it is the right location for us to build a new state of the art facility which will complement our existing manufacturing operations in the US."
