Three Kildare pharmacists have been shortlisted for respected national pharmacy awards.

Marie Claire Jago Byrne, Edwina Morrissey and Elaine Condon were revealed as shortlisted candidates for the 2016 Clanwilliam Pharmacist Awards at a special reception in Dublin on Thursday evening.

Now in their eleventh year, the Clanwilliam Pharmacist Awards aim to celebrate pharmacy and raise awareness of the outstanding work being undertaken by pharmacists across the country, while raising funds for the Pharmacy Benevolent Fund.

Marie Claire Jago Byrne, who works at Naas General Hospital and Edwina Morrissey who works at Tallaght Hospital, but is from the county, have both been shortlisted for the Practice-based Research Award, sponsored by hmR. This award will be bestowed on a pharmacist who, in addition to their regular work, is engaged in research to identify, recognise and promote evidence-based strategies for optimising the delivery of patient care. Kildare resident, Elaine Condon who works at TCP in Dublin is one of three candidates who has been shortlisted for the Professional Excellence Award, sponsored by Pfizer this year.

Speaking at the shortlist announcement, pharmacist and Chair of the Clanwilliam Pharmacist Awards Committee, Ultan Molloy said; “Once again we were very impressed with the high calibre of pharmacists who were nominated for awards this year. Pharmacists across the length and breadth of the country are doing outstanding work in the health service everyday, often behind closed doors, and don’t always get the recognition they deserve for their dedication to their patients and the sector. The Clanwilliam Pharmacist Awards aim to help recognise this dedication.”

Jennifer Hughes, Director of Marketing at Clanwilliam Group added; "The contribution of pharmacists to their local communities and the healthcare community as a whole is invaluable and it is these efforts that we aim to recognise and celebrate at the Clanwilliam Pharmacist Awards. We know first-hand the dedication and commitment they have for the profession and are delighted to honour all pharmacists across multiple categories. We want to express our gratitude and congratulations to all finalists and pharmacists for everything they do."

Nationally, 26 candidates have been shortlisted in nine different categories in the Clanwilliam Pharmacist Awards this year, recognising those working in community, hospital industry and academic settings.

All three pharmacists have been invited to attend the gala awards ceremony on November 26, 2016 where the winners of the Clanwilliam Pharmacist Awards will be announced.
