Tesco condemned for constant objections of plans to build Lidl stores after appealing two Kildare expansions

Tesco have been accused of deliberately blocking Lidl's plans for new stores across Ireland after they appealed against the German chain's plans to build new stores in Drogheda and Edenderry.

The appeals were submitted to An Bord Pleanala this week, and they have been condemned by Lidl, who consider them to be anti-competitive.

It comes on the back of a variety of objections from Tesco, as they have now lodged eight appeals against the construction of Lidl and Aldi stores throughout Ireland. "Tesco Ireland is a serial objector with the objective of delaying planning permission," claimed Lidl.

Tesco previously objected to plans for Lidl to build a store in Leixlip this year, though the board did give the supermarket giants the go ahead to build their new premises. Tesco have now appealed the plans to construct a new Lidl store in Edenderry however, and that has led to further frustration for the German brand.

Lidl have requested that An Bord Pleanala "consider the appeal vexatious, frivolous and anti-competitive in motivation'.

Tesco issued a response that said the chain "does not agree that the appeal is frivolous or vexatious".
