A local TD has handed in a petition to the Kildare County Council in an effort to make a bridge that has become and accident black spot more passable and safer for motorists.

Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley handed in the petition signed by local residents in Kildangan calling on KCC to make the bridge in the centre of Kildangan Village safe. This bridge has been a major concern for residents for years and Deputy Brian Stanley has made many representations over this problem.

Deputy Stanley said: "The petition we handed in yesterday is demanding that the Council make this a priority.  Just a few months ago there was an accident on the bridge and action must be taken to prevent any further accidents.

The bridge is very narrow and an electricity pole in the middle of it further reduces the width remaining for vehicles to pass. There is no path for pedestrians and school going children who cross the bridge daily to get to school. It also has very poor lighting and no pedestrian safety barriers. This all creates havoc and obvious dangers. The Council need to prioritise this matter and make this bridge safe.
