Gardaí have questioned a man over the death of Dubliner Philip Finnegan, who was found dumped in an area of Rahin Woods near Carbury earlier this month.

According to the Sun on Sunday, the man who was the subject of the Gardaí's questioning has previously been convicted for murder, and he carried the hit out on Mr Finnegan on behalf of Brian Rattigan's gang. The man being questioned is said to be the last person to have been seen with Mr Finnegan before his death, and it is believed that he may have killed the 24-year-old over a drugs debt.

He was released without charge after three days in Garda custody, and they believe that he may be withholding information. He has only recently been released from prison.

"The chief suspect has previously taken a life and would have no problem in doing it again," a source is quoted as saying in the Sun.

"He forged links with Rattigan in prison and has now been trying to make a name for himself on the outside. Finnegan had a number of arguments with Rattigan's gang and it looks as if he was killed over a drugs debt."
