Man with 100 previous convictions is jailed for incident on M7

A man with 104 previous convictions was jailed for 10 months at Naas District Court for robbing a coffee shop on the M7.

Evidence was given at Naas District Court how on how the accused went behind the counter  of a premises at Junction 14, Mayfield on July 31 last and tried to remove the till and its contents.

Garda Inspector Mel Smyth outlined how the accused had previous convictions including three attempted robberies.

The defendant's solicitor said his client (28) did not carry out a violent attack at the premises.

The court heard how the accused is a father to two young children and has an alcohol problem.

Judge John Cheatle was told the defendant attended Cuan Mhuire addiction centre in Athy and got glowing reports but 'fell off the wagon' after some time in prison.

Judge Cheatle said: "His record comes against him, I have no option but to impose a custodial sentence."

The accused was convicted and sentenced to ten months in prison and recognisances were set at €200.
