Fine Gael TD Bernard Durkan has claimed that the future of services at Naas General Hospital is not in doubt.

The Kildare North representative has described ongoing speculation in regards to services at the hospital as unhelpful and has moved to reassure the people of the county that there will be no loss in facilities.

“Ongoing speculation about the future of services at Naas General Hospital is unhelpful and simply unfounded. Over many years, Naas General Hospital has been developed to meet the needs of its catchment area and to provide the widest range and best quality of services to the community, including A&E services.

“Recent speculation to the contrary has already been rebutted by the Minister for Health Simon Harris, a position that will be strongly supported by myself and others who represent the people of County Kildare.

Deputy Durkan also suggested that the services will actually be improved, rather than decreased at the busy hospital.

“It took a long and concerted effort to bring Naas General Hospital to its current standard of development and no amount of idle, mischievous or inspired speculation will be allowed to interfere with the development of its services into the future.

“The truth is simple, the full range of services will continue to be provided at Naas General Hospital and in fact it will be enhanced, extended, broadened and upgraded in line with the future development plans of the hospital and in conjunction with current and future demographic trends.”
