Ryanair Chief Michael O’Leary kicked off celebrations with a limited in-flight free bar as winning connections returned to Ireland yesterday evening following Tiger Roll’s historic Grand National victory.
The 9-year-old, owned by O’Leary’s Gigginstown House Stud, became the first horse since Red Rum in 1974 to win back-to-back Grand Nationals.
The Ryanair owner was keen to toast the victory as a group of friends and family members returned to Dublin on a short flight.
To rapturous applause on the flight, O’Leary can be heard saying: “I got some criticism last year for limiting you to one drink per person…now you can have two drinks per person!”
He went on to congratulate Gordon Elliott on his third Grand National victory and jockey Davy Russell who now has two National wins to his name.
O’Leary says it is ‘very unlikely’ that Tiger Roll will bid for a third consecutive Grand National next year, however BoyleSports have made it an 8/1 shot that the popular horse completes a hat-trick in next year’s race.
