The Irish Cancer Society has carried out a 'Mystery Shopper' survey to test if tanning salons are complying with laws prohibiting under 18s from using sunbeds.
The Public Health (Sunbeds) Act 2014 forbids the use of sunbeds in sunbed premises by under 18s.
The Irish Cancer Society commissioned research to determine if salons are abiding by the under 18 age ban and to assess if they are providing advice about length and frequency of tanning.
The legislation is enforced by the Environmental Health Service of the HSE.
The HSE said the laws are an important measure to both protect young people and promote more informed a more choice amongst adults, in relation to the use of sunbeds.
The results of the 'Mystery Shopper' survey will be released by the Irish Cancer Society on Wednesday morning next in Dublin.
Free skin scanning will also be available on the day for all attendees.
Get your skin checked for sun damage, and get advice on how best to protect it.
