The Fiddle Case headlining the 2018 Sallins Tradfest

Féile na Sollán festival is back again for it’s sixth edition.

This festival is a must for music lovers and Irish Language and cultural enthusiasts.

It runs this year from Thursday 4th –Sunday 7th October.

The Féile na Sollán festival hosts a feast of Irish traditional music and cultural activities crammed into a weekend that celebrates all aspects of Irish Culture – Language, music, dance and song.

The highlight of the festival will be a Saturday evening gig with The Fiddle Case from North County Clare who have gigged and toured all over Ireland and Europe, including festival gigs as diverse as Na Fir Bolg in Belgium to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and the Doolin Folk Festival in Ireland. We also have local music

in Jenny Dillon and her band opening the show for us. This concert will take place upstairs in The Bridgewater at 8.30 pm. Tickets are €15 and are selling out fast. Tickets are available from www.sallinstradfest.com ,The Bridgewater or 0871834406.

Irish language events this year will include Viking Story Teller Mary Mary who will delight children and their families with tales of the Viking Gods and myths, illustrated by shadow puppetry on Saturday 6th at noon in the local National School. We also have arts and crafts for children, Bricfeasta as Gaeilge, a treasure hunt and storytelling for young children.

 

There will be many traditional music sessions taking place in the local pubs led by well known luminaries such as Tom Moran and Jenny Dillon. All musicians are welcome and encouraged to come along and join into any of the open sessions .

On Sunday we will see the return of the popular Gradam na Sollán inter-school competition, where schools from North Co. Kildare, go head-to-head in singing and music competitions, with the winners taking home the Gradam na Sollán award.

There is something for everyone in this years Sallins Tradfest so come along and enjoy this weekend of craic agus ceoil.

Sult na Sollán is a community group that set-up the Féile na Sollán festival in Sallins back in 2013. Sult na Sollán was founded in 2009 in Sallins to promote the Irish language and traditional Irish music and culture. Sult na Sollán host a couple of traditional music sessions each month and run Irish classes for adults in Sallins. They also host a weekly ciorcal comhrá for Irish speakers on Saturday mornings in Naas and occasionally run Irish language tours and bilingual Irish cultural workshop family events.
