Kildare ladies star Aisling Curley wowed coaches in Australia recently when she broke two records during a combine ahead of the Australian Football League Women’s (AFLW) draft trial in Melbourne.
Curley was one of a number of talented ladies footballers who headed down under for trials in the professional sport, and she certainly made herself known at the combine testing for the CrossCoders series.
Curley two running records, with her 20m sprint time of 3.22 seconds beating the record set last year by Pippa Smith of 3.24 seconds and her AFL agility time of 8.46 seconds beating that of Ruby Blair’s 8.495 seconds.
The combine event mirrors exactly what will happen in the proper draft trials, and Curley will be hoping to impress in those trials to secure a contract with an Australian AFL team. The draft takes place in three weeks time.
In the past year, Mayo star Cora Staunton has played in the AFL, while her county teammate Sarah Rowe and Donegal’s Yvonne Bonner are due to play the Aussie Rules game in the coming months.
