32 children from Scoil Bhride National School in Straffan, Co Kildare have donated €700 of their communion money to the Rory Foundation. With the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation taking place at The K Club, it was fitting as the children at the school wanted the money to go towards helping other children.

“The parents of the children have been great as they encouraged them to donate some of their communion money to charity and specifically towards helping children. With the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open taking place close to the school, they felt it would be a great idea to donate the money to the Rory Foundation. Rory has done some great things for children’s charities since he set up the Foundation and we’re delighted he’s supporting local charities in the Kildare area. We hope this donation can help children in some way,” said Seamus McGowan, Principal of Scoil Bhride National School.

Barry Funston, Chief Executive of the Rory Foundation was on hand to accept the donation at The K Club and said “Rory is delighted to hear what the children have done for his Foundation. I think it’s a fantastic idea and they are a credit to their parents. I’m delighted to accept their donation on behalf of the Rory Foundation.”

The Rory Foundation was established in 2013 to help children live better lives, to raise funds and offer support to children’s charities with a special meaning and purpose for Rory. Beneficiaries of the Rory Foundation so far include the Cancer Fund for Children, Mencap NI and Sport Changes Life, all based in Northern Ireland. Barretstown, Jack & Jill Foundation and LauraLynn’s Children’s Hospice will all benefit from this week’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.
