There will be a Kildare interest in the Champions League final this year, despite the fact that both sides involved are from Madrid. 18-year-old Athy man Evan McDonald will be one of the flag carriers for the showpiece game between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid next Saturday in Milan.
During half-time, Evan, from Athy, County Kildare, will be one of Nissan’s 25 Centre Circle Carriers to walk out onto the pitch at the San Siro Stadium. In-front of an 80,000 strong crowd, the Nissan Centre Circle Carriers will wave the iconic black and white flag as the UEFA Champions League anthem plays to welcome the players on to the pitch for the second half.
