There will be a higher presence of speed vans on the county's roads after it was revealed this afternoon that there will be a total of 21 new zones in which the GoSafe vans can operate in.
Nationally, there will be an additional 355 zones added to the network of areas in which the vans are allowed to operate within, and Kildare is one of the counties which will have the most new zones.
Dublin(26), Galway(24), Mayo(24), Cork(22) and Kerry(22) are the only counties which will see a greater number of new zones than Kildare.
There have been 17 fatal road traffic collisions in the 21 new zones in Kildare since 2010, with some of those zones suffering from more than one fatal accident in that period.
Gardaí say that the vans have been proven to save lives on the roads since their introduction, and they are planning to constantly upgrade the amount of speed vans on the country's roads.
The new zones will be in operation from next Monday morning.
