Kildare County Council have stated that no extra funding is available to carry out repair works on bog roads in the north of the county despite them being in 'serious distress'.

The issue was raised at a recent meeting of the Maynooth Municipal District by local Councillor Brendan Weld, who asked that extra funding be provided for bog roads in the municipal district for urgent repair following the recent very dry spell, as those roads are breaking up.

The council aknowledged the issue but said they can't currently do anything about it.

"The council share the councillors views on the need for increased maintenance on a number of bog roads which are in serious distress due to the drought conditions experienced over the summer. Unfortunately, the council has been advised that no additional funding will be made available from Central Government or from the local authority’s financial resources for this purpose," read the council's report.
