Two Mile House 2-16
Sallins 1-7
Pittman Traffic & Safety IFC Group B round three
Two Mile House made it three wins from three in the group stage of the Intermediate Championship as they had 12 points to spare in a comfortable victory over Sallins on Thursday night in Raheens.
It means that Niall Browne’s side top the group and go straight into the quarter-finals as they bid to make it to the county final for the second time in three years.
Two Mile House opened the scoring through Aidan Casey as he knocked over a difficult free, but Sallins enjoyed a good spell thereafter as they grew into the game and kept their opponents scoreless for the next 15 minutes.
Their opening point arrived in the seventh minute as Conor Dalton angled over a superb point off the outside of his boot, before Conor Herbert landed a good score from distance to nudge them ahead for the first time. Herbert doubled their advantage a minute later through a free, but that was as good as it really got for Sallins.
Matt Kelly helped Two Mile House settle down once again with a point from a free, before Aidan Casey sauntered through all too easily to roll home their first goal in the 17th minute. Things got worse for Sallins as they lost the ball when exiting their own danger area, allowing Mark Sherry to plunder a second goal for the House and push them five points clear.
Sallins rallied however, and a superb move gave them a lifeline in this tie. Cian Sharkey showed blistering speed down the right wing before playing the ball to Dalton, and he passed it across the goal for Paul Moynihan to palm the ball to the net.
Moynihan added a point from play shortly after to reduce the gap to one, but that only served to give Two Mile House a wake up call that they heeded.
A superb point from Oisin Byrne doubled their advantage before Jack Collins angled over another score, and both players raised a further couple of white flags to give Two Mile House a 2-6 to 1-4 lead at the break.
The second half was extremely straight forward for Two Mile House as they controlled matters from back to front as they continued to build on their lead when the game fizzled out.
Byrne got them up and running with the first score of the second half, and while Herbert offered some hope of a comeback for Sallins by nailing a couple of frees, but that was close as they would get again. Stuart White was spending on front of goal in the second half, and a couple of fine points widened the gap before Casey and Gavin Burke landed an impressive score each to put the game to bed.
Herbert knocked over Sallins’ final point of the game with 10 minutes to go, but Two Mile House finished strongly as Joe D’Arcy, Nathan Sherry, Matt Kelly and Didier Cordonnier all posted late scores to leave the gap at 12 in the end.
