Aside from the Intermediate Championship games that took place on Thursday evening, there were a few very important matches on in the Kildare Senior Football Leagues.
There was a battle to avoid relegation from Division 1 as Leixlip hosted Raheens in the final game of the league, with the latter needing to avoid defeat to stay in the division. It was Leixlip who managed to come out on top however, winning by 3-12 to 2-10 in a hard fought game that was finely poised at 2-7 to 1-7 at the break. Raheens stay in the top tier now comes to an end, and they will play alongside the already relegated St Kevin's in Division 2 next year.
Coming up from the second tier will be Johnstownbridge and Maynooth, but there were matters at the bottom end of the table to be decided on Thursday evening. Two Mile House were already ahead of Monasterevan in the table when the latter travelled to the village outside Naas, but a win for the south Kildare side would have seen them overtake Two Mile House in the table and save their Division 2 status.
It was the hosts who won out however, eventually having plenty to spare as they enjoyed a 2-11 to 1-6 victory. Monasterevan will join Allenwood through the trap door to Division 3, while Eadestown and Ballyteague will make the jump up tot the second tier in their place.
