A Co Kildare Labour Representative is welcoming plans for further investment at the Backweston Campus in Celbridge, where the OPW are proposing a €30million Government Data Centre.
Tenders, stated Mr. Emmet Stagg, for engineering consultants to help plan for the construction of the new government data centre have been invited by September 10, next. Planning Permission will need to be secured for the project and all going well it is hoped that construction would commence in March, 2019, with an expected completion date of September, 2020.
Mr Stagg said: "Data Centres centralise IT operations and equipment and manage and disseminate data. They are essential for housing most critical systems and are vital to the continuity of daily operations.Whilst data centres do not create major full time employment, with facilities when operational typically employing 30 people, they do create substantial construction jobs."
