The Pittman Traffic & Safety Intermediate Football Championship gets back underway this evening as two games take place in the first round of the group stages.

The newly formatted competition sees each team play three games each in the group stage, and the first of those takes place in St Conleth’s Park at 7.15pm when St Kevin’s take on Straffan in Group A. Kevin’s enjoyed a straightforward win in their opening round game as they eased past Ellistown, while Straffan were edged out by Kilcullen in a tight affair in their first game.

Sallins and Ellistown meet in Hawkfield at 7.30pm in a game that is looking finely balanced, with both sides hoping to make an impact in Group B, which also features Monasterevan and Two Mile House. Sallins edged Suncroft in a thriller in the first round, while Ellistown will be looking for a much better performance than the one they put in against St Kevin’s when they lost by 12 points.

There is one more game in the Intermediate Championship over the weekend as Ballymore Eustace and Nurney meet at 6.30pm on Sunday evening. 2017 Junior Championship winners Ballymore Eustace enjoyed a fine win over Monasterevan in the first round, while Nurney were well beaten by Two Mile House.

There are also four games down for decision in the Tom Cross Junior Football Championship, the first of which takes place on Friday evening when Robertstown take on Castlemitchell.

Rheban and Milltown meet on Saturday in Hawkfield, while there is a doubleheader in the same venue on Sunday where Caragh meet Rathcoffey and Cappagh play Ballykelly.
