A Co Kildare grandmother who returned to running after 30 years is now getting set for the New York City Marathon.
Rathangan woman, Mary Kennedy, will be running over 26 miles this November in NewYork, all in aid of Crumlin Hospital for Sick Children.
The 53-year-old grandmother will be holding a fundraising event starting off from Rathangan Community Centre, at 11am, on September 19, next. Although she has taken part in several fundraising events while walking, she only returned to running by taking part in a couch to 5K, last year.
She said: "I am running five out of seven days now. I have lost nearly two stone training. I am eating better, I feel much better. I would recommend it to anyone."
People can participate in a 5k or a 10k walk in Rathangan by logging on to justruns.
