A man facing charges in connection to punching a 12-year-old girl in an ‘unprovoked’ attack has been ordered to return to Naas District Court for a Probation Report.
The man, with an address in Newbridge, of Eastern European origin, is facing an assault charge. The accused is also facing charges of being found in possession of MDMA (ecstasy) at Newbridge Garda Station on the same date.
Sgt Brian Jacob told the court how the accused ‘appeared out of nowhere’ and did not know the girl and her mother.
It is understood that the girl’s mother followed the man until Gardaí arrived.
Judge Desmond Zaidan said: “This is an awful thing for a 12-year-old.”
Defence Solicitor, Tony Hanahoe, said that the accused ‘does not remember the incident.’
Judge Zaidan said: “A single punch could have killed, all because you decided to take ecstasy.
There is a high risk that he will be sent to prison, you took drugs and punched an innocent child for no reason.”
The accused has been ordered to appear before Naas District Court again on October 11, next, for Probation and Sentence.
