Bins at Bottle Banks 'will create more problems than they solve' - Council

Kildare Co Council has ruled out placing small refuse bins at recycling centres and bottle banks.

The suggestion had been made by Cllr Mark Stafford to accommodate plastic bags or cardboard boxes which people bring bottles in.

However the Council insisted that the placing of refuse/litter bins at recycling banks 'will unfortunately create

more problems than they solve'.

An official added: "The main items left at recycling banks are cardboard boxes.

"As these boxes do not fit easily into standard litter bins, it will result in bins becoming jammed.

"Having larger bins that accommodate cardboard boxes will (from experience) result in the placing of domestic waste in them.

"It should also be noted that the Municipal District Offices are not in a position to increase the number of bins

emptied in their areas.

The use of CCTV has proven to be a successful deterrent at bottle banks and it is intended to continue with this option."
