A young teenager (13) charged with the murder of Kildare schoolgirl Ana Kriegel is to be granted bail.

The boy, who cannot be named because he is a child, was the first to be charged with the murder of the 14-year-old schoolgirl at a derelict house in Lucan on May 14.

Judge John O'Connor at the Children’s Court ruled that the teenager be remanded in custody with consent to bail.

The bail is subject to strict conditions and may not be taken up for a number of days.

The boy is being detained at the Oberstown youth detention centre in north Dublin.

The case was adjourned until Thursday.

Another boy is also charged in connection with the murder of Ana.

Gardai told a previous hearing that they are viewing almost 700 hours of CCTV footage as part of their investigation.
Over 20 Gardai are working on the case.
A total of 230 statements have been taken.
Ana was reported missing on May 13 and her body was found three days later - which shocked the local community.

For Ana's funeral service at Newlands Cross Crematorium, the Kriegel family asked mourners to wear sparkle and colour.

Ana is survived by her parents Patrick and Geraldine, brother Aaron, grandmother Eva (Ball), aunts Jennifer, Jan and Lynne, uncles Kevin, Ray and Phil, cousins Bruno, Philippe, Natalie, Mérone, Carla, Darragh, Martha, Art, Sadbh, Cillian and Fiadh as well as a wide circle of friends.

Ana lived with her family at Newtown Park in Leixlip and she attended the local Confey Community College in Leixlip.
Local communities of Leixlip and Lucan opened books of condolences in the tragic schoolgirl's memory.
