Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) are appealing for walkers, joggers and runners in Co Kildare to support their life-saving work by joining their Dublin Women’s Mini Marathon team this June 13.
Friday, May 18, is the deadline to register for this event so make sure to get your entry in before it’s too late!
Meningitis and septicaemia can affect anyone at any age, with babies, children and young adults most at risk. This disease still kills more children in Ireland than any other infectious disease, leaving many survivors with after effects as severe as brain damage, amputations or hearing loss.
Meningitis Research Foundation is the only meningitis charity dedicated to funding research, awareness and support in Ireland for the past 29 years. The Foundation support families affected by meningitis and septicaemia via the free helpline and home visits. They also educate the general public and health professionals, providing disease awareness talks and information literature nationwide.
Monika Marchlewicz, Ireland Manager, said: “We are hoping to recruit 100 women to join our Team Meningitis and help us make a difference. Ireland has the highest rate of meningitis in Europe and despite vaccination and research developments people still lose their lives and suffer disabilities as a result of this devastating disease. Therefore we want to use the money raised from this event to help fund our awareness programme and support services for families affected”.
