A number of requests are being made in North Kildare to have speed limits reduced to 30km/hr 'for the safety of residents and children.'
Following a long campaign by the mother of a young boy who was tragically killed after he was struck by a car, the Government decided earlier this year to allow local authorities request a 30km/hr speed limit in housing estates.
The inquest into the death of Kilkenny boy Jake Brennan in June 2014 heard how he lay dying in his mother’s arms.
Roseanne Brennan , his mother, campaigned to have speed limits reduced in housing estates to 20km/hr.
Earlier this year, Minister Paschal Donohoe told the family that he will leave the discretion with local authorities to decide speed limits in their catchment areas.
As part of a motion for this month's Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District Meeting, Cllr Michael Coleman is appealing to have the speed limit reduced to 30km/hr on the Simmonstown/ HazelHatch Park Road, linking the ArdClough Road with the HazelHatch Road, and asked that it is to be included in the 'countrywide speed limit review for the safety of residents and children.'
Additionally Cllr Kevin Byrne is requesting the 30km speed limit in Oldtown Mill Estate, Celbridge.
