The family of a man killed in a house fire last month want to honour his memory with a touching gesture.

Well-known horticulturalist Kieran Skelly, who owned K&M Plants Direct in Carbury, lost his life in a blaze which destroyed the family home at the end of March.

The dad-of-five (48) has left behind his wife Muriel, children Lydia, Jerome, Bianca, Mckayla, Dylan and grandson Tadhg.

The family lost all their belongings in the fire and are currently in temporary accommodation as they plan to rebuild the family home.

The family recently asked friends to post photographs and memories of Kieran to a memorial Facebook page  to honour his memory as they lost all belongings.

Kieran exhibited at the Bloom gardening festival every year in the Phoenix Park in Dublin and had booked a stand for the 2016 event during the June bank holiday before his death.

Kieran's wife Muriel told KildareNow: "He had already booked a stand at this year’s event and it is the family’s intention to honor his memory and his hard work by designing and installing the “K&M Plants Direct” stand this year.

"He took the design with him when he passed away but our family is confident he will inspire us when the time comes to draw up this final stand."

Kieran had won numerous gold and silver awards for his displays at this gardening showcase event.

Meanwhile the Skelly family also wants to thank everybody who supported them so kindly in the days since the bereavement.

A family spokesperson said: "The outpouring of sympathy and generosity the immediate family has received has been startling to behold.

"From the bottom of their hearts the entire family  wants to thank all those who made this difficult journey a little easier."
