A man showed footage from a 'dash cam' in court in a bid to get off a road traffic charge.

Donncadh O Cinnsealaigh of Kilmeague, Naas was charged with crossing a continuous white line to overtake another car near Blacktrench in February.

Mr O Cinnsealaigh, who said he was on a pension, insisted in Naas District Court that he had legally crossed a broken white line at the time of the manoeuvre.

As part of the evidence, Judge Desmond Zaidan viewed footage on a laptop from the defendant's 'dash cam' camera.

However gardai said that one video was from a different date and taken from the opposite direction on the road.

Judge Zaidan ruled that the state had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and fined Mr O Cinnsealaigh €750 for the offence.
