The Donegal Chamber Orchestra will be joined by guest soloist the brilliant musician Tom Byrne (harmonica and accordion) and the wonderful traditional group COIRM of Paul Harrigan for Sunday Concerts in Conwal.
This Sunday afternoon - Mothers Day - the Donegal Chamber Music Society popular concert series Sundays in Conwal continues with a special recital where classical musicians and traditional players will share their talent on the stage.
The Donegal Chamber Orchestra will offer another eclectic recital with a selection of movements from works as Bizet's Carmen and Bartók's Series For Children. They will be joined by Inishowen musician Tom Byrne on harmonica and accordion to perform well know pieces by Austrian violinist Fritz Kreisler (Liebesleid & Liebesfreud) and Argentinian Tango Master Astor Piazzolla (Oblivión & Libertango); beautiful catchy tunes that will bring the listener from any café of Central Europe to the streets closer to the Río de la Plata. Tom Byrne will also perform his own piece "Magilligan Air" accompanied by strings, an air he particularly loves as Tom's own mum was from Magilligan.
The second part of this recital will bring back to the Letterkenny stage the acclaimed Traditional group Coirm, under the guidance of Paul Harrigan. Coirm is now one of the top ensembles of the Trad scene in Ireland. After their successful performances recently at the Trad Week, they will offer pieces from two leading females of the fiddle world, Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh and Zoe Conway, a wink to this special week in which we just celebrate the International Women's Day and Mothers Day.
Suaimhneas, composed by Zoe Conway, will close the concert in a very special arrangement for the occasion with the DCO and Coirm joining forces in this powerful tune.
The concert is presented by the Donegal Chamber Music Society, who established this series of concerts in 2012, in association with Donegal Music Education Partnership.
This Classical Meets Trad concert takes place in Conwal Parish Church, Letterkenny on Sunday, March 11 at 3.00pm. Admission €10/€5. Tickets will be available at the door from 2.30pm.
