An extra €1 million in funding has been made available to Kildare County Council for the improvements of regional and local roads in the county this year.
The government has raised the grant figures from €5,499,188 in 2017 to €6,499,000 in 2018, which was announced this week by the Department of Transport. In addition, Kildare North Labour representative Emmet Stagg stated that Restoration Maintenance Grants for Kildare have risen from €1,388,423 in 2017 to €1,626,000 in 2018.
"The funds will be used to improve our regional and local road network," stated Mr Stagg.
"A Discretionary Maintenance grant of €2,256,500 has also been made available in 2018 which will be used on day to day repair of roads and streets. Funding has also been provided for improvements at dangerous crossroads including Ladychapel, Maynooth, Crinstown, Maynooth and Sherlockstown, Sallins."
"Finally, a further sum of €16,500,000 has been allocated for the Sallins By-Pass and Osberstown Interchange works, work on which commenced in late 2017."
