Gardaí in Kildare nabbed three motorists for using their mobile phones while behind the wheel yesterday.
The operation was conducted by a unit from Naas Traffic Corps near J10 on the M9 motorway, where they are currently also observing the speeds of vehicles using the road that has been reduced to a 60kmh one in parts due to the ongoing roadworks.
Gardaí clocked two van drivers and the driver of a regular car during the checks. All drivers will be issued with penalty points and fines. The fine for using a mobile phone while driving in Ireland is €60 and the issuing of three penalty points.
