Gardaí in Maynooth are investigating an incident in which an electric bike was stolen from a home in a Maynooth housing estate over the weekend.

On Sunday morning between 3am and 6am a black electric bike was taken from Parklands Place in Maynooth.

It is believed that the suspected thieves may have travelled to Blanchardstown in Dublin with the bike. Electric bikes are powered by an electric motor  although they can still be pedalled, with some of the lighter models reaching speeds of 32km/hr (16 to 20 mph) . In Ireland they can range in price from €2,000 to €6,500 with the most popular models including Thompson and Bosch.

Gardaí in Maynooth are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact them at Maynooth Garda Station on 01 6292380.
