Balyna kept their promotion hopes alive by taking three very valuable points from a strong Straffan outfit in the recent Division3 league match played in Cadamstown. These points were especially important by getting them back to winning ways after suffering a shock defeat away to Kilcullen in their previous outing.
Easy Winners
Mat A: This mat was a very competitive game up to half way stage where the sides were level at four scores each. But from that point onwards the Straffan side came more and more into the game, and uncharacteristically the Balyna side seem to crumble under the pressure, thus leaving the visitors running out easy winners at the finish.
Balyna: Tommy Grifferty, Christy Colgan, Colman Byrne, Paul Hillen and sub Thomas Myles.
Straffan: Jos Evertsen, Maureen Donovan, Betty Brogan and Denis Brogan.
Bad Errors
Mat B: Great game from start to finish, with Balyna always holding the lead throughout. Straffan were always in contention right up to the twelfth end, but entering this critical stage of the match a couple of bad errors by the visitors handed the initiative to the home side. From thereon to the finish the hosts took full advantage of the situation and ran out deserving winners.
Balyna’s three points edges them back into top place at the moment, while Straffan’s two points keeps them around mid-table.
Balyna: Gary Stynes, Noel Moore, Pauline Holton and Johnny McCabe.
Straffan: Linda Daly, Thomas Donovan, Sean Brogan and Brendan Murphy.
Best for Balyna: Gary Stynes, Pauline Holton, Tommy Grifferty and Christy Colgan.
Best for Straffan: Jos Evertsen, Denis Brogan, Sean Brogan and Brendan Murphy.
Games Elsewhere
Rathangan’s trip to St. Laurences to take on the home side ended in disappointment, as the home team on the last end on both mats just edged over the line to give them all five points. Rathangan will feel a little bit unlucky not getting something out of this one.
St. Laurences’ great win over Rathangan was cancelled out when they made the short trip to their neighbours in Athy. With the hosts sitting at the bottom of the table the five points pushes them up to third from the bottom, and with three more games still to play they have a fighting chance to avoid relegation. St. Laurences still remain fourth from the bottom and also have three games to play, so the remaining games will be crucial to all concerned.
