It's Easter Sunday and many of us have been looking forward to devouring the Easter egg that has been sitting in the press for the past number of days. While Easter eggs are mainly enjoyed by kids, us adults look a little bit of chocolate too, but at what cost? Easter eggs are notoriously high on calories and the fact that there chocolate bars included with most of them makes their calorie and fat content much higher.

The average Easter egg contains about 1,000 calories, while some of the bigger ones contain over 1,500 calories. An adult's recommended daily intake of calories is 2,000, so it's clear to see that the Easter treats will take up a sizeable chunk of our diets.

So how can you burn off those calories in an efficient way?

Running at a relatively average pace for 90 minutes burns just over 1,000 calories. That average pace is judged at 10 minutes per mile, so the calories burned will differ if the runner goes slower or faster than that pace.

Another way of burning off the extra weight out on by gorging on Easter eggs is to go out for a walk six times a week. A brisk walk at four mph for 30 minutes six days a week would generally burn around 1,000 calories. Again, this will vary from person to person.

If swimming is more down your alley, it is a great way to lose bodyweight and burn off those extra calories. It takes a while however, and the average person would need to swim around 70 lengths of an Olympic length 50-metre swimming pool to shred 1,000 calories.

Cycling has become one of the most common ways that people manage to stay fit in recent years, and just 90 minutes of pedaling at a hard pace would help to knock just over 1,000 calories off the average person.
