Coldest spot in Ireland last year was on Kildare border

The coldest place in Ireland in 2017 was on the Kildare border, Met Eireann revealed.

In a summary of last year's weather, forecasters said the coldest recorded temperature was - 6.6 degrees at Casement Aerodrome just off the N7 on the Kildare/Dublin border on December 11.

The hottest part of the country during 2017 wasn't too far away either - the highest temperature was 28.6 degrees recorded at a weather station in the Phoenix Park on June 21.

 

The main weather event of the year was Storm Ophelia, an ex-hurricane and the strongest storm to hit Ireland in half a century, which made landfall on October 16th.

The highest gust of wind recorded was 155km/h, at Roche’s Point, Co Cork, during Storm Ophelia.

 

Storm Doris brought also struck in late February.

September was the wettest month of the year, according to the statistics.

The Met Éireann weather station at Malin Head, Co Donegal, recorded its wettest summer day in 62 years, with 63mm (over 2.5 inches) of rain falling in six hours on August 22.
