A Co Kildare woman whose mum died of a rare condition a year ago is embarking on a 380-mile journey to her graveside.
Moone native Amie Merlehan's mother Toni died on July 7 last year from Peripheral Vascular Disease which affect's the heart's arteries.
Amie and pal Heather Fathers are now cycling an incredible 384 miles from their base in London to Toni's resting place in Moone on a major fundraising mission.
Amie is raising cash for the work of the surgeon who carried out a total of 48 operations on her mother in the eight years before her death.
Toni (below) had only been diagnosed with the condition by specialists after her sister had unknowingly died of the same mystery illness.
Amie also wants to tick off items on her late mum's Bucket List like clay pigeon shooting and archery.
She said: "We are doing the cycle to recognise all those battling Peripheral Vascular Disease and honour all those lost, including my inspirational mother.
"All money raised will go to my mother's surgeon Mr David Nott whom volunteers six months a year of his own time to travel to war-torn countries like Syria and spends the rest of his time working in the UK and teaching vascular surgery."
She added: "For me, he is the man who saved my mother lif'se multiple times, got her through 48 surgeries, never gave up on her and still had the time to reassure me and worry about how I was doing."
