A judge has branded a courthouse in Co Kildare as 'probably the worst in Europe' in comparison to modern court facilities.
Judge Desmond Zaidan made his comments as he presided over cases in Naas District Court - which was extended and refurbished in the late 1990s at a cost of €2.5m.
A middle-aged defendant who appeared in Naas court on a speeding charge said that it was his first time in a courtroom in his life.
Judge Zaidan quipped: "You're lucky it wasn't in Kilcock Court.
He added: "It's probably the worst courthouse in Europe!"
