It’s the final countdown with just 3 days to go until Christmas Day arrives, and a recent survey has found that Irish drivers actually quite enjoy the driving home for Christmas-with today being the busiest day for journeys as people travel home for the holidays.
The most enjoyable journey of the year is fast approaching according to a recent survey carried out by Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The award-winning car rental company recently took to the streets to survey people on issues such as driving home for Christmas and their biggest concerns on the journey.
An overwhelming 92% of Irish motorists said that the journey home for Christmas is the most enjoyable journey of the year, trumping other enjoyable journeys such as the drive to the airport for a holiday and a road trip with friends.
George O’Connor, managing director of Enterprise Rent-A-Car Ireland, said: “Our annual survey confirms that people still view the Christmas season as a special time of year and as a unique opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family.”
While Irish drivers enjoy the journey home for Christmas most, 70 per cent highlighted safety concerns as their key consideration when preparing for the trip. Because of this, many turn to renting a vehicle, with more than a quarter (18%) of survey respondents highlighting that renting a car during this time of year ensures the use of a reliable, fully roadworthy car for the holiday season. Additionally, one in 10 drivers believes a rental car takes away the worry of relying on parents or family to get around during the festive season.
“This survey highlighted the benefits and peace of mind that hiring a car brings people over the Christmas period, and it is clear that having an up-to-date, fully roadworthy car to use over the season helps to assuage some safety concerns Irish drivers may have," said Mr O'Connor.
Mr O’Connor concluded:“It is also important to reiterate the Road Safety Authority's advice to people during the Christmas period. As people enjoy the festivities, it is vital to remember to never ever, drink and drive and always plan your itinerary for a night out in advance, making sure you have a plan to get home safely. It’s also key to be aware of your driving speed and general fatigue when behind the wheel this Christmas."
