Kildare Fire Service is appealing for motorists especially drivers of trucks to ensure that their registration plates are clean this Christmas.

It follows a recent incident where a driver of a truck carrying hazardous chemicals through a town in Kildare was spotted with the ADR plates being unidentifiable.

In a post on their Facebook page, Kildare Fire Service said: “We recently came across this truck travelling through a town carrying a hazardous substance, but for the life of us we don’t know what it is? God forbid this truck was in an accident and leaking chemicals, our only way of knowing what he/ she is carrying (bar talking to the driver if possible),is through the ADR plate.”

Kildare Fire Service said that ADR plates should be “kept clear and clean at all times, as well as clearly legible as we need to know how to contain or act with the substance being carried.”

They added: “Dirty roads are hard to avoid but safety of you and others around you should never be skipped.”
